Gospel/Spanish Study: Monday, September 19, 2011

Now, brothers and sisters, we are anxious to listen to the messages which willbe presented to us today and tomorrow. Those who will address us have sought heaven's help and direction as they have prepared their messages. That we maybe filled with the Spirit of the Lord and be uplifted and inspired as we listen and learn is my prayer.

Ahora, hermanos y hermanas, estamos deseosos de escuchar los mensajes que se nos presentarán hoy y mañana. Los que van a hablarnos han procurado la ayuda y dirección del cielo al preparar sus mensajes. Que seamos llenos del Espíritu del Señor y seamos elevados e inspirados a medida que escuchemos y aprendamos; es mi oración,

May we long remember the messages we have heard. As we receive the issues of the Ensign andLiahona magazines which will contain these messages in written form, may we read and study them.

Espero que recordemos por mucho tiempo los mensajes que hemos escuchado. Al recibir los ejemplares de las revistas Ensign y Liahona con los mensajes escritos, espero que los leamos y los estudiemos.

We face many challenges in the world today, but I assure you that our Heavenly Father is mindful of us. He loves each of us and will bless us as we seek Him through prayer and strive to keep His commandments.

Study:

"[I] face many challenges in the world today, but I {am} [assured] ... that [my] Heavenly Father is mindful of [me].  He loves [me] and will bless [me] as [I] seek him through prayer and strive to keep His commandments."

May we be good citizens of the nations in which we live and good neighbors in our communities, reaching out to those of other faiths as well as to those of our own. May we be examples of honesty and integrity wherever we go and in whatever we do.

Study:

"May [I] be {a} good [citizen] of the [nation] in which [I] live and {a} good [neighbor] in [my community], reaching out to those of other faith as well as to those of [my] own.  May [I] be {an} [example] of honesty and integrity wherever [I] go and in whatever [I] do."

Mosiah 18:9

Yea, and are awilling to mourn with those that bmourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand ascwitnesses of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that ye may be in, even until death, that ye may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the dfirst resurrection, that ye may have eternal life—

Am I "willing to mourn with those that mourn; yea, and comfort those that stand in need of comfort, and to stand as {a} [witness] of God at all times and in all things, and in all places that [I] may be in, even until death, that [I] may be redeemed of God, and be numbered with those of the first resurrection, that [I] may have eternal life"?

To Always Remember Him

We can put Christ at the center of our lives and become one with Him as He is one with the Father. We can begin by stripping everything out of our lives and then putting it back together in priority order with the Savior at the center.

We do so by always remembering Him—particularly through three important actions: first, seeking to know and follow His will; second, recognizing and accepting our obligation to answer to Christ for every thought, word, and action; and third, living with faith and without fear so that we can always look to the Savior for the help we need.

To learn more, read or listen to Elder D. Todd Christofferson's message from the April 2011 Ensign andLiahona, "To Always Remember Him."

"[I] can put Christ at the center of [my life] and become one with Him as He is one with the Father.  [I] can being by stripping everything out of [my life] and then putting it back together in priority order with the Savior at the center.

"[I] do so by always remembering Him---particularly through three important actions: first, seeking to know and follow His will; second, recognizing and accepting [my] obligation to answer to Christ for every thought, word, and action; and third, living with faith and without fear so that [I] can always look to the Savior for the help [I] need."

I wish to elaborate on three aspects of what it means to "always remember him": first, seeking to know and follow His will; second, recognizing and accepting our obligation to answer to Christ for every thought, word, and action; and third, living with faith and without fear so that we can always look to the Savior for the help we need.

All vowels are short, pure sounds that do not lose their essential  value even when placed in an unstressed position.

Unlike English, each vowel has only one basic sound, with slight variations according to its placement within the phrase or word.

A: 'o' in pop

E:  'e' is halfway between the 'e' in 'let' and the 'a' in 'late'

I:  'i' is always like the 'ee' in 'see'

O:  'o' as in 'go'

U:  'u' is very much like the 'u' in 'fluid'.  It is slightly shorter in length.

Y:  'y' stand alone or is the final letter of a word, it is pronounced like the vowel 'i':  'ee'

Spanish vowels do not change their basic sound when they form part of a diphthong.  They are pronounced more rapidly in succession and form 'one' syllable.

Words that end in a consonant, except 'n' or 's', are stressed on the last syllable.

Words that end in a vowel or in 'n' or 's' are stressed on the next to the last syllable.

Only one accent mark: '.

  1. It is placed over a vowel to indicate an unusual stress on that syllable.
  2. Used with all interrogative words and exclamations.
  3. Sometimes used to distinguish between two words that otherwise are identical in spelling.
  4. May be omitted over capital letters

The imperative tense is used in giving advice.  Commonly used in advertisements.

tarea - task

H:  only silent consonant.

LL:  considered one consonant.  Like the 'lli' in 'million'.

N~:  like the 'ny' in 'canyon' and the 'ni' in 'onion'

S:  between vowels is always unvoiced, like the 'ess' in 'dresser'.  Slightly  voiced before a voiced consonant.  Often disappears completely before 'r' and 's'.

Z:  like 's' in 'sink'

C:  like 's' in 'sink' before 'e' or 'i'  In all other positions, 'c' is hard, like the 'c' in 'corn'

Qu:  pronounced like 'k'.  Appears only before 'e' or 'i'

Single consonant goes with following vowel.

Two consonants are separated, except if the second is 'l' or 'r'
